Susan Gugliuzza’s Nursing background is concentrated in women’s services, particularly in the area of Labor and Delivery and Maternal-Child Health.
As a Labor and Delivery nurse, Susan cared for families from all socio-economic levels. Working to increase their knowledge of maintaining a healthy pregnancy, she focused on healthy eating during and after the pregnancy and care of the infant once born.
In speaking with many parents, Susan was aware of the struggles in starting infants on solid foods, getting them to eat their fruits and vegetables and the overall health and well being of babies. She also noticed that there isn’t a month that goes by where you do not hear news relating to childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is turning into an epidemic in our country. Her belief is that if children are given a healthy start in food tasting and if it is carried through their toddler years, they will continue with healthy eating habits throughout their childhood.
Her book helps parents set an example of healthy eating using basic recipes that will feed the entire family. Infants and toddlers love to mimic their parents and siblings. Family meals are an important time to not only set a healthy example for eating but are also an opportunity for building strong relationships with your children. Susan is one mother who practices what she preaches. Her next book, due out the Summer of 2005, will be devoted to the pre-school child, keeping your little one active and enjoying healthy foods.
Susan has nearly twenty years of experience working at hospitals in Illinois, New York, .Southern California, and Tennessee.
