It's Not Just Proper Nutrition...It's a Lifestyle.

Meet the Author

Susan Gugliuzza’s Nursing background is concentrated

in women’s services particularly, the area of Labor and Delivery

and Maternal-Child Health.  Her clinical experience in high-risk

labor and delivery was gained at a 720-bed teaching hospital

located in Western New York.  This was the foundation for her

strong desire to assist mothers and families with growing a

healthy baby.  As a Labor and Delivery nurse, Susan cared for

families from all socio-economic levels.  Working to increase

their knowledge of maintaining a healthy pregnancy, she focused

on healthy eating during and after the pregnancy and care of the

infant once born.

In addition to her clinical experience, Susan has over fourteen

years of experience in health care administration at several

hospitals located in southern California, Illinois and New York.

During her career, Susan has set up physician office practices

and implemented remodel/expansion projects.  She also completed

a research project with two internationally known perinatologists

on the topic:  “Are the ACOG Risk Factors for GBS Prophylaxis

Practical?”  Susan worked as a liaison and facilitated meetings

between Johnson & Johnson Consulting and Services and

Corporate Columbia/HCA, in Nashville, Tennessee.  In this role,

she met with the senior administrative staff to review strengths,

assess opportunities for growth and assist with overcoming

challenges related to supply chain and expense management.

Susan’s background in Maternal-Child Health combined with

expense management experience and becoming a mother enabled

her to write “Growing A Healthy Baby, One Spoonful at a Time”.

During the course of her pregnancy and after the birth of her son,

Susan became excited with regard to the potential that we all have,

to raise healthy children.  She became a mother in March of 2001,

with her second son born in 2002.  In speaking with many parents,

Susan was aware of the struggles in starting infants on solid foods,

getting them to eat their fruits and vegetables and the overall health

and well being of  babies.  She also noticed that news relating to

childhood obesity appears in the media on a regular basis.

Childhood obesity is an epidemic in our country.  Her experience

demonstrates that if children are given a healthy start in food tasting

and if it is carried through the toddler years, they will continue with

healthy eating habits throughout their childhood.

Through Growing a Healthy Baby, Susan brings to the general public

clinical information in an easy to understand format. In her role as nurse,

mother and author, she understands the importance of prevention.

Prevention of childhood obesity should begin at home.  Working to

educate families regarding proper nutrition, activity and developmental

readiness, Susan promotes beginning healthy dietary and lifestyle habits

from the earliest possible age.  Infants and toddlers love to mimic their

parents and siblings.  Family meals are an important time to not only set a

healthy example for eating but are also an opportunity for building strong

relationships with your children.

Susan is a graduate of D’Youville College, School of Nursing in Buffalo,

New York.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and is specialty

certified in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing.  Susan is currently a candidate for

a Master of Science Degree in Health Systems Administration at the

Rochester Institute of Technology.
